EcoMaya Festivals was founded in 1995, with its first Mother Earth Day celebration at The Great Photography Center in Los Angeles. In its second year it moved its celebration to the beautiful Barnsdall Art Park in Hollywood, where it returns in 2004; after several years at the Los Angeles City College campus.

It has been estimated that the Los Angeles Area is home to approximately over two million Maya people from the areas of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Guatemela, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

The EcoMaya Festivals have been realized because of the help and support of the Los Angeles City Councils, the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, and the many sponsors and volunteers who join us in the celebration each year.

The EcoMaya Festivals have also been made possible by the support and perseverance of the Festival's founder, Julio Santizo.
